Health and safety consultants

Health and safety regulations can be overwhelming, but they don’t need to be. RelyOn guides you through all the legalities with a service tailored to your business.

Our commitment to health and safety

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 affects every organisation in every industry, no matter the amount of staff.

Failing to meet compliance not only puts your organisation at risk of fines and work delays, but also severe injuries. Our responsibility is to make sure that does not happen.

At RelyOn, our expert team of health and safety advisors have over 30 years of experience navigating complex regulations with the trades, office buildings, the property sector, medical centres, distribution warehouses, and engineering firms to name just a few.

We provide a customised solution for your business based upon a thorough health and safety risk assessment.

Accident investigation

If an accident happens on your premises, we conduct a detailed investigation to determine what happened and how to prevent that type of incident from happening again.

Our expert health and safety consultants ensure that all necessary documents are filed, noting the following:

  • Specific details of the incident with witness statements.
  • Environmental factors.
  • Relevant equipment.
  • Current safe systems of work

Once the incident is documented, we carefully analyse the paperwork to identify the root cause, taking into account all possible hazards, training deficiencies, or equipment failure.

After the cause is identified, we implement comprehensive practices and policies to minimise accidents going forward, ensuring your employees and visitors are in a safe environment.

Risk assessments

Every business requires a risk assessment. If an incident happens, you face severe scrutiny, needing to prove that you did everything you could to prevent that accident from occurring.

Failure to meet that standard could mean your business is found negligent and non-compliant, bringing about potential criminal charges, fines, and months in prison.

RelyOn provides health and safety training to the level that is required for your company. We take into account the number of people required for specific training, then facilitate the instruction.

Each industry has different needs, and we offer guidance in several areas, such as:

  • PPE.
  • Working at Height
  • Proper protocol at night.

We’re there to ensure your business not only meets regulatory standards, but fosters a safe work environment for all employees.

Property audits

Ensure that your properties are legally compliant with the latest fire and safety regulations for complete peace of mind. RelyOn Advisors provide professional on-site assessments, typically understanding your level of compliance within two to three hours.

Following our inspection, we’ll provide a comprehensive report outlining our findings and recommendations within 10 business days, helping you quickly address any areas of concern.

Our team is well-versed with all types of properties, including:

  • Blocks of flats.
  • Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs).
  • Multi-tenanted buildings (office workspaces).
  • Unoccupied buildings (commercial and domestic).

Each RelyOn audit is tailored to suit the specific health and safety requirements of your property.

Health & safety, and Equality Act audits

RelyOn is dedicated to helping your business identify the level of compliance it already has and pinpoint any gaps necessary to meet legal standards.

Our expert health and safety advisors will spend two to three hours on your premises to fully understand the situation. Once the assessment is finished, they deliver a detailed and actionable report within five business days.

This business document outlines all necessary steps and information your business needs to comply with current legislation including:

  • Safety procedures in place.
  • Policies relevant to the business.
  • Fire safety

The Equality Act audit outlines all necessary steps your building needs in order to meet the standards of the legislation and promote accessibility to all groups, including:

  • Wheelchair users.
  • Visually-impaired people.
  • Individuals who are hard of hearing.

With this knowledge in hand, you can ensure your building is inclusive to everyone.

Compliance documents and policies

When you’re unsure where to begin, RelyOn is there to make the process easy. We work closely with you to simplify policy management, starting with a thorough review of your existing policies.

Our team identifies any shortfalls and drafts new policies as needed to ensure your business remains compliant and protected.

RelyOn advisors can create a range of essential documents tailored to your needs, such as:

  • A general policy statement
  • A detailed health and safety policy.
  • A comprehensive fire safety policy.
  • A safe driving policy.

By addressing these vital areas, your organisation aligns with the latest legislation and promotes safety as a core value, ensuring the well-being of your staff and visitors.

Site safety inspections

HSE (Health and Safety Executive) inspections can happen at any time, and if your construction site does not meet current required safety standards, the site could be forced to close down, stopping all works.

Avoid losing money and ensure your company is ready for a random HSE visit with RelyOn site safety inspections.

Once a month, we spend an hour on your active worksite. Our walkthrough includes:

  • Identifying anything non-compliant.
  • Reviewing onsite documents.
  • Making sure work is undertaken in line with current risk assessments.

Once an inspection is finished, we’ll send a detailed report to you within five business days.

RelyOn also creates a process for you to do your own weekly checks, so you can ensure that you’re never caught off guard if the HSE decides to inspect your site.

First aid and fire training

Every business is legally required to undertake a formal risk assessment for first aid training. Whether you have a health and safety department or are just a small team, we can organise training to the level required for your company.

Fire warden and fire marshall training operate in a similar manner. We assess what your company requires and develop a distinct plan for your staff.

Training can include:

  • An online emergency first aid course.
  • Full onsite training (conducted by a third party).
  • Employee and patient evacuation.

Whatever your organisation or HS department needs, RelyOn is there to help you put emergency response procedures in place for your staff.

Additional training services

After conducting a thorough risk assessment and audit, RelyOn can organise additional training based on your business’s specific needs. We take the time to understand the challenges of your workplace and ensure recommended training addresses the unique risks your staff may encounter.

These sessions cover a wide range of important health and safety topics to promote workplace wellbeing and reduce the likelihood of accidents. Training can include:

  • Manual handling techniques.
  • Safe work at height practices.
  • Fire drill procedures.
  • Display screen equipment (DSE) training.
  • Site Safety.

With these specialised training programs, your team is well equipped with the knowledge to handle various workplace challenges, improving overall safety and compliance.

Health & safety

Frequently asked questions

What is a health and safety consultant?

A health and safety consultant is a professional within the health and safety field who can provide competent third-party advice to companies, in line with their industry sectors.

What does a health and safety consultant do?

A health and safety consultant advises and guides businesses, and develops workplace procedures and policies. They undertake risk assessments, provide safety training and conduct audits. Ultimately, they ensure a company is in legal compliance with health and safety legislation and regulations.

Who is responsible for workplace health and safety?

The ultimate responsibility is on the employer or person responsible for the business; however, employees also have a responsibility as described in the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

What is the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974?

The act applies to all workplaces and premises in the UK and defines the general duties of employers, employees and controllers of certain premises.

What are the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992?

These regulations underpin basic health, safety and welfare within most businesses and industries to protect employees. They do not apply to construction sites, which are covered by The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM 2015).

What industries do you work in?

We work with all businesses within all industry sectors, providing advice specific to your industry.

What areas do you cover?

We work throughout the UK with our clients and are based in the South West with easy access to the M4 and M5.

Do you have any documentation templates I can purchase?

Yes, you can purchase documents tailored to your business for multiple uses. It’s part of our service plan from either our monthly advice line or on an ad hoc basis. As an additional bonus, all documentation we produce for you is owned by you and branded for your organisation.

How much do health and safety consultants charge?

Our prices start from as little as the price of your daily takeaway coffee. It’s great value for ensuring all your health and safety concerns are addressed. At RelyOn, we provide services based on your company needs. Choose from ad hoc support or maximise value with our monthly retained Life Line service.

When considering health and safety services, what should I look for?

It’s important that your consultant shares your values and is a good fit for you and your business. You don’t want to be tied to someone who isn’t aligned with your principles.

Look at whether you own the documentation you’re purchasing. As a benefit, RelyOn documents are branded for your organisation and belong to you.

Check your contract length. Many of our competitors sign clients up for 3- to 5-year contracts. We prefer our clients to stay with RelyOn because of our relationship and service, so enjoy contracts with us as short as 12 months.

Are there sectors or properties you don’t cover?

We work with all industries, providing advice and support in line with the requirements of your sector.

How long are your retained service contracts?

We don’t believe in long contracts. Our clients stay with us because of the working relationships we build and the service we provide. Our Retained Life Line contract lasts 12 months, giving your organisation flexibility.
